Prefabricated Substation

Also called European-pattern tank-type transformer substation or prefabricated substation.

The prefabricated substation is a complete set of power distribution equipment, which combines the transformer, high-voltage switchgear & control device, low-voltage switchgear & control device, power measurement device, interior connection (cable bus bar and other), and auxiliary apparatus into one or several tanks. Therefore the high-voltage power input, transformer voltage step-down, and low-voltage power distribution are effectively combined together to be especially applicable to the construction and reconstruction of the power network. The prefabricated substation features complete set, small volume, being able to go into load center, reliable power supply, low loss, short power transmission period, user friendly, easy installation and maintenance, safe and reliable service, little investment, quick taking effect, etc.

The HV circuit breaker works in the power system to break the normal load current and the short-circuit current. The HV switchgear of the end users of the power system, especially users of 10 kV small capacities, usually breaks the normal load current and seldom breaks the short-circuit current. Therefore, the combination of HV load switch and fuse is selected to replace the HV circuit breaker. The HV load switch is used to break the normal load current, while the fuse is used to break the short-circuit current. In this way, it also reaches the purpose of isolating the switch. Compared with the combination of HV load switch and fuse, the HV circuit breaker is of larger size, higher price, and cannot meet the compact volume requirement of prefabricated substations. So 95% of the HV equipment of prefabricated substations adopt HV load switch.
